Jim Woods has published more than 400 articles in Outdoor Life, Popular Mechanics, Petersen's Hunting, Guns & Ammo, Shooting Times, Guns, Southern Outdoors,Western Outdoors, Gun Digest, and other national periodicals; and has contributed to various anthologies.

His newest eBooks released from Gypsy Shadow Publishing in 2011/2012 include the writing tutorial, SO YOU WANT TO BE AN AUTHOR?; the big-game hunting memoir, HITS AND MISSES; and the crime fiction trilogy, WOMEN WITH WEAPONS.

His newest short fiction collection, released in 2011 by Champagne Books in e-format, is CABBAGES AND KINGS. As a bonus, two of the key stories in that collection, “The Diamond Exchange” and “She Serpent,” are available from Champagne Books as e-novellas. Earlier e-book releases from Jim Woods and Champagne Books are ASSASSINATION SAFARI and PARTING SHOT.

His current print release from Champagne Books, also available in e-book, is GUNSHOT ECHOES, a collection consisting of an adventure/suspense novella set in South Africa, “The Outlander,” supplemented with five short mysteries.

His out of print works available in soft-cover print from used book sources and private collections include OLLA PODRIDA, a co-authored collection of short fiction; THE LION KILLER, a set-in-Africa action-suspense novel; HONK IF YOU LOVE GEESE and Other Hunting Stories, accounts of his world hunting adventures; JOURNEYS, a short fiction collection; and TWO DOZEN LESSONS FROM AN EDITOR, a writing tutorial.

He is a novelist and short-story author, and when not writing for himself, edits other authors' novels and nonfiction book-length works under private arrangement (click here for editing services information). He conducts writing-technique workshops for authors' groups and writing conferences.

Jim Woods worked as Editor, Editorial Director and Managing Editor for (then) Petersen Publishing Company, Los Angeles ; and as field Editor with (then) Publishers Development Corporation, San Diego. He has worked as an engineering writer-editor in the aerospace/defense industry, and served, honorably, with the U.S. Navy, four years.

He is actively included in the Safari Club International (SCI) Professional Outdoor Writers Registry (POWR). His past professional associations include membership in Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA) and American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA).
